Local Advisory Committee

The Local Advisory Committee (LAC) is made up of Disability Community representatives, Senior representatives and at large members representing areas of Kalamazoo County. The LAC advises and makes recommendations to the Central County Transportation Authority and the Kalamazoo County Transportation Authority on issues related to Metro Connect service. The LAC makes policies relating to Metro Connect service and hears comments from the public about Metro Connect operations.

Regular Meetings

The LAC holds regular meetings which are open to the public. These meetings occur every third Wednesday of every other month at 2:30pm in the Metro Linda Teeter Community Room (530 N. Rose Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007).

Notice of these meetings is made at the regular meetings of the Kalamazoo County Transportation Authority in accordance with law.

Membership

Membership on the LAC is through appointment by the Kalamazoo County Transportation Authority. Composition of the LAC is as follows:

  • 4 members representing the disability community
  • 3 members representing the senior community
  • 1 member representing rural Kalamazoo County
  • 6 at large members representing the geographical diversity of the urban areas and rural townships of Kalamazoo County
  • 1 liaison from the Kalamazoo County Transportation Authority (non-voting member)

Comments / Complaint Procedures

Title II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) provides that no entity shall discriminate against an individual with a disability in connection with the provision of transportation services. The law sets forth specific requirements for vehicle and facility accessibility and the provision of service, including access to fixed route bus and complementary paratransit service. Metro is committed to providing safe and reliable transportation to all people without discrimination based on disabilities. Metro operates without regard to race, color, national origin, creed income, gender, age and disability.

If you believe you or another person has been discriminated against by Metro or Metro Connect under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or if you have a concern about the service, you may file a complaint.

  • Your name, address and telephone number
  • The date, time and location of the incident
  • The vehicle number if known
  • Details of the incident and any other information to support your claim

Your complaint or concern will be promptly addressed, and you will be notified of the resolution in your chosen method of communication. If you are not satisfied with the resolution, you may address your concerns at the Local Advisory Committee (LAC) meeting. A schedule of LAC meetings will be included in your response.
