Metro to host series of webinars for public transit education

For the past two years, Metro has enhanced communication throughout the community and the use of public transportation. Beginning with rider open houses, we brought the community to us to learn about our services—and provided time for key staff members to facilitate further discussion about current and future service plans with the public.

“Through community events, rider open houses, and regular conversations at the transportation center, we learned two key points,” said Chief Operating Officer Keshia Woodson-Sow. “First, people are scared to ride transit. Second, people do not know how to access the services in this community.”

In response to these recurring questions and concerns, Metro will launch the next phase of community communication on August 26 with a series of transportation webinars. With three sessions to choose from to fit your schedule, Metro will discuss: transit safety, transportation to school on the fixed-route system, and how you can utilize Metro Link to connect to the fixed route system.

This first webinar is geared towards community groups for youth, parents, and students as the school year begins. Designed to mitigate mobility insecurity and foster transit confidence, attendees will be able to utilize Metro’s mobility solutions very quickly afterwards. For those unable to attend live, recordings will be available on our YouTube.

There will be three additional webinars throughout the rest of the year, discussing other aspects of Metro’s mobility systems for all—pass and token options for students, Metro Connect and Link as affordable options for expanded access to the city, and Metro’s work culture as a prospective employee.

“As members of this community, we took a moment to ask, if I was in this person’s shoes, what would I want to know before I ride the bus,” said Woodson-Sow. “As a team, we then focused on short ways to get the word out, with each webinar having a key focus area for the services provided in this community.”

Transit is an essential cornerstone of community, driving people of all ages to grocery stores, education, employment, and healthcare. The first step towards movement is understanding how to utilize public transit. Attend Metro’s first session to learn more about our mobility solutions for all.
