Metro Returns to Sunday Bus Service on May 8
April 29, 2022 – Metro will be resuming fixed-route bus service to the community on Sundays starting on May 8. Hours of service on Sundays will be from 9:15 a.m. to 5:08 p.m.
Sunday bus service was suspended in October of 2020 due to the impacts of the pandemic.
“We are very excited to resume the Sunday service. We know how important seven day a week service is to our passengers and the community,” stated Sean McBride, Executive Director for Metro. “A number of new drivers are now in place to sustain the service. We are continuing to hire bus drivers and encourage people to apply to join the Metro team.” Open positions are announced on the Metro website at www.kmetro.com/employment.
When the Sunday hours of operation were discontinued, Metro Connect, the demand response service provided throughout Kalamazoo County, was available for passengers to use for Sunday public transportation. The service provided rides to those going to destinations in the county, including worship services and employment. Metro Connect will continue providing reserved trips 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Sundays with reservations available by calling 350-2970.
The hours of operation for Metro buses starting May 2 will be Monday through Friday 6:15 a.m. - 10:08 p.m., Saturday 6:15 a.m. - 10:08 p.m. and Sunday 9:15 a.m. - 5:08 p.m. Select routes have different start and end times, and Metro encourages passengers to check the bus schedules for current hours. Schedules for each route are available at kmetro.com, on Metro’s buses, and by using the myStop Mobile App. For additional information, call 337-8222.
Masks are now optional when riding Metro buses and Metro Connect and inside Metro facilities as of April 19.
Effective Tuesday, April 19, 2022, masks are no longer required on Metro buses, Metro Connect and in Metro facilities. Wearing a mask on public transportation in Kalamazoo County will be decided by the individual rider. Metro encourages its riders and customers to make decisions that are in their best interests.
This change comes as a result of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) not enforcing masks on public transportation due to a recent court ruling.
Metro appreciates the community’s cooperation with this announcement. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available and posted on Metro vehicles, at the Transportation Center, and at www.kmetro.com.
